Why The Rec Room

Their first real sport.

Little Athletes is where 3 and 4 year olds get their first taste of real sport-style movement. This isn’t free play; it’s structured, coach-led training designed to build the athletic foundation every kid needs.

Each session introduces running mechanics, jumping technique, throwing and catching fundamentals, and age-appropriate obstacle-course patterns. Kids learn how to listen to a coach, wait their turn, and follow multi-step instructions; all while having a blast.

The pace is fast and the energy is high, but every challenge is scaled so your child feels successful. It’s the perfect bridge between toddler play and real athletic development.

Common Questions

Everything you need
to know.

Absolutely not. Our classes cater to all skill and experience levels. Whether your child is brand new to movement and exercise, or a star athlete, your child will be able to go at the appropriate pace for them, without any fear of being left behind. Our coaches are trained to make sure all kids of all levels feel included, are challenged at their level, and feel confident and successful during and after every class.
For this age group, classes are comprised of basic skill development and engaging play. While they will be learning exercises, techniques, and occasionally lifting weights (mostly ages 9+), we know kids learn the best through play. Our classes are going be fun first, with science based movement and exercise principles subtly intertwined.
Despite our classes being fun-forward, our main priority is for your child to truly grow and show real improvement over their time with us. As your child graduates from the younger aged classes to the older aged classes, we will transition from friendly competition based metrics, to real trackable data. For example, we may have a bodyweight squat competition for the 5-7 year olds, versus a 3 rep max dumbbell squat for our 11-13 year olds. We also understand progress isn’t just in the physical numbers, but in the character development of your child. Our classes are going to include elements that challenge their brains, and help them learn life skills such as respect for others, teamwork, and confident public speaking. These qualities are a bit more challenging to track with metrics, but we intend for you to see real tangible growth in your child’s problem solving, deductive reasoning, and more.
We intentionally use overlapping age brackets (i.e. 5-7, 7-9), so if you feel your child is more advanced and ready to hang with the older kids, they are welcome to, and if they feel more comfortable with a slower pace, they can remain in a lower age bracket. We want your child and you to feel completely comfortable that they are in classes with their peers and being challenged in the most appropriate way for them.
For our youngest in this age bracket, if they use any weights, it will likely be 10 lb or less (depending on the specific exercise and objectives), however mostly all of the movements they will do will be learning how to use their own bodyweight, or using more “child friendly” equipment such as sleds, balls, bands, and more. For the older age brackets, they will be using weights more often, but again only in a specific, calculated, safe manner. We want your children to feel comfortable using all different kinds of gym equipment, but only after being taught how to safely engage with it. Our coaches know that safety comes first, while still allowing the kids to be challenged appropriately.
Our incredible coaches are trained on how to not only keep attention and to disguise hard work across the entire 45 minute class. Starting with greetings, to down-to-the-minute scheduled objectives, your kid is going to feel like the class flew by. Even during water breaks, the kids will be challenged with trivia and educational micro-learnings, so their brain and body are both outputting energy, and establishing positive habits for the entire class. — This is also why we intend to be fun-first. Kids (and many adults) learn the best and get the most out of challenges when they are having fun! We pride ourselves on the scientific approach we take to design the classes, but the kids will be none-the-wiser to our methods, as they will just be having fun with their friends!
Of course. We know our space can have some chaotic moments before and after classes, but our management team and coaches are ALWAYS available to the parents for a status report on your child. Whether it be a quick chat with a coach after class, or a phone call with ownership during off-class hours, we take pride in working with your children, and want you to rest assured they are getting individualized attention. We hope The Rec Room feels like a communal space where you feel comfortable with the staff, and know exactly how your child is doing on their journey with us.
The Rec Room was created with both categories in mind. Youth athletes only grow into elite athletes if they train as a well-rounded Athlete – not sport specialist. Our fitness principles will train our competitive athletes to become stronger, faster, more coordinated, and more that translates directly to the field/court. Learning the same principles – even as a non-competitive athlete – builds confidence and positive movement patterns and habits that grow into healthy teens and adults. Confidence and positive movement patterns are important qualities that translate into all walks of life. We are shaping healthy kids and teens to grow into healthy adults.
